As a continuation of the best bed bug treatment options, we would like to focus on A-1 Able Pest Doctors “Do-It-Yourself” bed bug kits. For the entire month of October, we are running a bed bug kit special at our three Miami Valley retail locations (1320 N. Keowee, Dayton; 406 W. McCreight, Springfield; 1190 N. County Rd. 25A, Troy), also available at our Bug Store online. During the month of October, you can purchase one bed bug kit at full price and get a second kit for half off.

Bed bugs are one of the most well-known natural hitchhikers. That is how they have become so easily transferred from friends, family, social, public and medical gathering sites. More often than not, you will have to perform treatments at several locations, including vehicles, to ensure elimination and reduce the repeated exposure. That makes now the perfect time to stock up on two kits, or more, depending upon your needs.

Why do we recommend A-1 Able Pest Doctors bed bug kit? Because we have tested each product, researched each product, and recommend each product that is part of the kit. Included in the standard bed bug kit are:

1. Bedlam Plus foaming aerosol:  This is a foam product that kills adult bedbug and their eggs. Use in heavily infested areas. Apply as a spot treatment to cracks, crevices, baseboards, floorboards, bed frames, wall hangings, headboards, furniture, doors, window frames, millwork, and walls. Treat areas that may harbor bed bugs and their eggs, such as tufts and folds in seams.

2. Cimexa: This is a dusting treatment. For hard-to-reach areas, less is better — if you can see piles of dust, you’ve used too much. Empty contents into the dust bulb, apply to areas such as behind the stove and refrigerator, along electrical outlets, under sinks and baseboards, under edging of rugs, and in cracks and crevices. Be sure to treat windowsills and openings where insects are harboring.

3. Gentrol IGR concentrate vial: This product will help to prevent bedbugs from reproducing. Add one vial to one gallon of Fenvastar mix (see next bullet).

4. FenvaStar concentrate: Use as a spot treatment in all cracks and crevices. Clean floors and surfaces with a vacuum.  Apply a coarse, low-pressure spray to harborage areas including baseboards, loose plaster, behind bed frames, headboards, beneath beds, and under furniture. Do NOT apply to furniture surfaces or mattresses where people will be laying or sitting.  You may treat tufts around mattresses, box springs, furniture, and underneath couches and chairs. Mix according to label directions, two ounces per gallon of water.

We also recommend an on-site, one-hour training session to show you, in your home, how to use the kit and where to apply the treatments. We also will make recommendations to help improve your chances of eliminating the bed bug infestation. Call us at 1-800-737-8189 to make an appointment.

As you put up Halloween decorations and prepare for trick-or-treaters, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for some real creepy crawlers that could be lurking around your yard and home.

Ohio is home to more than 620 species of spiders…and all of them are venomous, except for one. The good news is, most of the time, spiders are not harmful to humans or pets, since the amount of venom they possess is minimal. Spiders have eight legs and two fangs, and they serve an important role in keeping other pest populations under control.
